JUNIOR CRICKET
Participation, Development & Community Spirit
The primary objective of Tuggeranong Valley Junior Cricket Club is to provide young people in the Tuggeranong Valley with the opportunity to participate in the game of cricket, acquire athletic and team skills, and forge enduring friendships in a secure, encouraging atmosphere. Every player deserves equal encouragement, fair batting and bowling time, and respectful support from coaches and parents.
Stages 1–3 & Colts Explained
Ages are indicative guidelines only — player readiness, confidence, and friend groups are thoughtfully factored into team selections.
Friday Evenings (5:30 PM) or Saturday Mornings (8:30 AM)
16-metre pitch, 7 players per team, 20 overs
Modified soft/leather composite ball (no heavy helmets mandatory for all, but encouraged)
Everyone bats for equal pairs overs and everyone bowls 2–3 overs. No player sits on the bench.
Saturday Mornings (8:30 AM) & Girls Sunday Comps
18-metre pitch, 9 players per team, 25–30 overs
142g leather cricket ball · Full safety gear mandatory (helmet, pads, gloves, box)
Batters retire after designated balls or runs so everyone gets an opportunity. Bowling limits ensure all players roll their arm over.
Saturday Mornings or Sundays
20.12-metre (full length) pitch, 11 players per team
142g or 156g regulation leather ball
Traditional cricket formats with dismissal consequences, building tactical awareness and transition towards senior cricket.
Sunday Mornings / Afternoons
Full length turf or synthetic wickets
156g full regulation cricket ball
The direct stepping-stone into TVCC senior grade cricket with senior player mentors and turf wicket exposure.

Parent Volunteering
Cricket cannot happen without parent involvement. We require every family to assist with either scoring on the mobile app, umpiring square-leg, or packing down equipment. All volunteer coaches are registered for free and require a current ACT Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) card.

My child is 10 but brand new to cricket. Should they do Stage 1 or Cricket Blast?
If they have never bowled overarm or played structured ball sports, Cricket Blast is a fantastic, stress-free foundation for their first season. If they are confident throwing and catching, Stage 1 modified cricket will suit them well.
What equipment does the club supply versus what do we buy?
TVCC supplies team kit bags with bats, pads, gloves, stumps, and match balls. Every player receives an official club playing cap upon registration. Families are advised to supply their own personal helmet (meeting BS7928:2013 standard) and protector (box).
Can my child play with their school friends?
Yes! During registration or by contacting our Junior Registrar at Jvp@tvcc.org.au, please note any friend requests. While team balance and stage readiness come first, we do our best to place friends together.
What are the parent volunteering expectations?
Junior cricket relies 100% on parents. Each junior team requires a coach, a team manager, and rotating parents to score (using the PlayHQ e-scoring app) and square-leg umpire. No previous experience needed — we support you!
